城ヶ崎文化資料館

The Jogasaki Cultural Material museum exhibits interesting items collected over the years from throughout Japan. You can see old-fashioned toys, cultural materials, folkcraft, and more! For moms and dads, it’ll be a nostalgic place, for kids, it’ll be a new world full of discoveries! There is also a stained-glass exhibition which the owner has collected himself. The museum is located near the Izukogen station on the coast and near the area that leads to the suspension bridge. Don’t forget to experience the retro atmosphere!

You can see a collection of Showa period movie posters hung on the whole wall! The fact that the poster clearly states a "Color Works" movie reminds one that this was a period of transition from black and white to color movies.

Many old Japanese school textbooks are on display. The textbooks in the photo have portions related to militarism that were blacked immediately following the end of World War II.

There are numerous Japanese toys from the Showa period exhibited at the museum. This is a toy called “Dakko-chan (meaning “hug me” in Japanese)” that was popular in the 1930s. The robot made of tin is priceless! There are more Japanese toys such as Kamen Rider and Kaiketsu Lion-Maru, so enjoy them all!

This is a traditional Japanese case called Inro, to hold small objects such as medicine. This Inro was used in a historical drama series called Mito Komon.

The museum exhibits various items such as scales and wooden offertory boxes used by the merchants during the Edo period (1603-1868). There is culture in history and so through these cultural objects you can learn about the lifestyle of old Japan.

アジサイ舎

After you’ve looked around the museum, don’t forget to stop by café Ajisai-sha!You can eat Hera-hera mochi. Hera-hera is a Japanese word to express that someone that is laughing foolishly. This dish was named Hera-hera mochi because even a majesty would laugh at its good taste.
